$93b high-speed rail link forecast to hit headwinds

Long stretches of tunnelling, construction under rivers and avoiding critical power utilities and fuel lines near the new Western Sydney International Airport will create major technical challenges and risk significant cost blowouts for the proposed $93 billion high speed Sydney-Newcastle rail link.

The Albanese government on Tuesday released a 300-page business case for the 194-kilometre rail link, which if delivered, would become Australia’s biggest infrastructure project.
