Airbnb owners rethink Olympics plans as short-stay changes loom

Brooke Lambert was preparing to buy her second short-stay rental property in Brisbane ahead of the 2032 Olympic Games, but has now scrapped the idea as the city council plans to introduce new fees and regulations that owners say amount to “money-grabbing”.

Lambert, 57, is a seasoned Airbnb host. Alongside her Clayfield rental, which sits at the front of her own home in Brisbane’s north, Lambert has owned a short-stay property on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula for the past decade.
