APRA warns of concentration risk as banks move to US cloud providers

The prudential regulator has warned of a growing concentration of technology risk in the financial services sector, as banks shift core workloads into computing clouds operated by US-based providers.

The Australian Prudential Regulation Authority said on Tuesday an industry-wide audit was under way to determine pressure points for the banking sector and broader economy if a cloud or other critical technology provider were to fail, and called for “continuity and recovery plans” to be put in place.
