Industrial energy users are pushing the Victorian government to rethink its plan to replace the state’s ageing coal generators with large offshore wind farms, which they say could impose major costs to households and businesses compared to alternative options.
The Australian Industry Group, which represents over 60,000 businesses in sectors including manufacturing, construction, and technology, said that while offshore wind had value for the grid, its rising costs had cast doubts over its short-term benefits to the state.
