Fuel bound for Australia failed to load at a Chinese port at the weekend, the first time a shipment has been missed since the outbreak of the Middle East conflict that has set global energy markets on edge and created serious concerns of a domestic shortage within weeks.

Already, some regional airlines have reported shortages of some fuels, particularly diesel, at smaller airports after truck deliveries slowed.
