One of the members of the Iranian women’s soccer team who was granted asylum in Australia has changed her mind and will return to Iran, as Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke stresses that new powers to block temporary visa holders travelling to Australia would apply only to visitors from Iran.
Burke announced on Wednesday morning that two more members of the Lionesses had decided to seek asylum, before revealing hours later that one of the pair had reversed her decision after speaking with teammates who had already left the country.
