Consumers could pay higher airfares as airports spend billions

Airport profits have soared following an increase in car park charges and aeronautical fees in big cities, and the competition watchdog warns that higher spending on expansion projects could cause steeper airfares.

Airports in Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney earned $402 million in operating profits from car parking activities, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission said in its latest airport monitoring report.
