Cyclone forces WA LNG shutdowns, worsening global gas crunch

A wave of shutdowns across Western Australia’s major LNG plants due to Cyclone Narelle has worsened a global shortage of the fuel caused by the war-induced shutdown of Qatar’s output and also hit the supply of gas to the WA domestic market.

Production has been suspended at plants including the large Wheatstone operation on the WA mainland near Ashburton and at one train of Chevron’s huge Gorgon LNG plant on Barrow Island off the coast.
