Tourism industry figures are urging the Albanese government to make a major investment in upgrading antiquated arrival systems, including paper customs declaration cards, or face international embarrassment when the influx of tourists hits for the 2032 Brisbane Olympic Games.
“When it comes to welcoming Aussies home and visitors to our country, Australia is falling behind the rest of the world, where biometric technology is already being used to provide a truly seamless border process which means no stopping, no huge queues and no frustration,” Brisbane Airport chief executive Gert-Jan de Graaff said.
