Entitlements may be legal, but voters know a rort when they see one
The Labor government’s lack of empathy over the entitlements scandal has been notable, and speaks to a broader mindset that shows increasing disdain for transparency.
Anthony Albanese may be defending his ministers and others who appear to have abused the spirit of the rules governing the use of entitlements, but there are more than a few inside government who are unimpressed at the antics of their colleagues.
These people constitute the majority. They are generally experienced and smart enough to have used these entitlements judiciously and sparingly over the years, to the point their names never pop up when there is a periodic explosion of stories, triggered by the reckless abandon of the few.
