EV subsidies drive rare drop in transport emissions

The Albanese government says it is on track to meet its 2030 climate target after a rise in the number of Australians driving electric vehicles and record levels of renewable power generation contributed to a 1.9 per cent drop in annual carbon emissions.

The headline figure was underpinned by the first year-on-year fall in transport sector emissions since the COVID pandemic, according to new quarterly data published by the government’s National Greenhouse Gas Inventory.
