The Albanese government is reconsidering plans to scale back the $1.3 billion-a-year tax break for electric vehicles as the fuel crisis drives a surge in the number of motorists abandoning petrol and diesel cars.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese hinted at the move on Friday after the Coalition demanded an immediate halving of the 52.6¢ a litre fuel excise for three months, and a corresponding reduction in the Heavy Vehicle Road User Charge.
