Tokyo | As war in the Middle East pulls American military assets westward, security planners in Asia are confronting a troubling question: just how thinly stretched is the US as the war on Iran drags into a third week?

Washington is redeploying elements of an anti-missile battery from South Korea to replace damaged assets near Iran. It has also sent more than 2200 marines from Okinawa, the US base in Japan, along with the amphibious assault ship USS Tripoli.
