Fire evacuation warnings as Victoria braces for record heat

An out-of-control bushfire in Victoria’s Otway Ranges prompted warnings for residents to leave by sunset and put holiday towns under more pressure after a devastating summer season, with temperatures expected to hit a record 49 degrees in parts of the state.

Townships in the ranges area west of Melbourne including Barongarook, Gellibrand and Mount Sabine were being warned to evacuate before nightfall.
