Former Star chief executive Bekier broke the law, but board didn’t

Former Star Entertainment chief executive Matt Bekier broke the law by failing to properly confront the serious risk that junket operators were laundering money and by not properly telling the board about the possibility that criminal organisations were operating inside the casino giant.

The Federal Court made similar findings against Star’s former chief legal and risk officer, Paula Martin, but said the corporate regulator had failed to prove that the company’s former directors were also to blame.
