Full speed ahead on Qld’s Taroom Trough oil amid fuel security fears

The push to develop oil from Queensland’s promising Taroom Trough region and supply Ampol’s refinery in Brisbane has intensified amid the Middle East conflict, which has exposed Australia’s oversized dependence on imported fuels.

Omega Oil and Gas chief executive Trevor Brown – one of several explorers scrambling to uncover the commercial potential of the region in the state’s south-east – said it was possible that deliveries of oil to the refinery could start by 2028.
