Gold powerhouse Northern Star struggles to shed junior explorer past
Investors who followed the company’s Three Wise Men more than a decade ago will have made a killing. But huge expansion is creating serious growing pains.
The beards sported by the three magi were obviously fake, but the message adorning the May 2011 presentation was authentic: “Why today’s Wise Men should follow a Northern Star”.
At the time, Northern Star Resources shares changed hands for 37¢, and managing director Bill Beament, a mining engineer who became known as the King of Kalgoorlie, harboured big plans for the up-and-comer.
