Harrods is still haunted by crimes of former owner Al Fayed

The famous retailer has set aside millions to compensate victims of the serial sexual abuser, but many believe the public statements of contrition are just window dressing.

Harrods devotees can’t avoid former owner Mohamed Al Fayed. His likeness features on carved Pharaonic heads overlooking the Egyptian-themed escalator hall he commissioned to move people around the up-market London department store.

The store wants to remove them, but until then, the extravagant vanity sculptures are a constant reminder of the late billionaire, whose serial sexual abuse of women is a grim legacy the luxury landmark is yet to shake off.
