Hastie sought own poll as suspicious MPs fretted over bullish research

Andrew Hastie was among Liberals who commissioned their own polling because they distrusted Freshwater Strategy research that overrated Peter Dutton’s chances of winning the 2025 election.

The Liberal Party’s review of the election defeat, which the federal executive decided on Friday not to release, criticised the party’s over-reliance on a single pollster, recommending it never again put all its eggs in one basket.
