IEA tells drivers slow down or take the bus as oil crisis bites

Cutting highway speed limits by 10km/h could reduce overall oil use from cars by 1 to 6 per cent, according to the International Energy Agency, which has listed 10 recommendations to help member nations such as Australia conserve their fuel supplies during the Middle East conflict.

Alison Reeve, energy and climate change program director at the Grattan Institute, said the IEA’s recommendations were beneficial in theory but didn’t necessarily address the unique circumstances of Australia’s fuel use.
