War will keep inflation ‘higher for longer’: Chalmers

Treasurer Jim Chalmers has warned that the Middle East conflict has put the economy on a highly uncertain path, signalling Treasury will consider revising earlier modelling that had inflation rising as high as 5 per cent in scenarios now viewed as too conservative.

The war has disrupted the stabilising of headline inflation, which declined slightly to 3.7 per cent in February from 3.8 per cent in January, according to figures released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics on Wednesday.
