London | Iran’s military has surprised with its capabilities, but revelations it fired long-range ballistic missiles at the massive Diego Garcia military base suddenly put the war for Europe beyond just the pain of higher energy prices.
Although one missile was intercepted and the other failed in flight, the attack last week on the isolated Indian Ocean base has brought the threat of the conflict deep into Europe’s heart. Iran’s possession of such a warhead that can fly 4000 kilometres puts European capitals, including London, Paris and Berlin, firmly within range of Tehran’s regime.
