The Albanese government is set to announce a major new taxpayer subsidy for Rio Tinto’s Boyne aluminium smelter in an attempt to maintain the viability of the facility as it transitions to renewable sources of power generation.
Federal Industry Minister Tim Ayres and Queensland’s Natural Resources Minister Dale Last will travel to Gladstone to announce the deal on Wednesday.
