The global chief executive of Lamborghini says a customer backlash led the company to dump plans for a full electric version and that a global economic downturn stemming from the Middle East war is more of a threat to demand than months of high petrol prices.
Stephan Winkelmann said it was too early to predict if the Iran war would hurt sales of the prestige brand, but cautioned that a lengthy Middle East conflict could bring more significant fallout because Lamborghini demand was heavily influenced by confidence in the global economy.
