Minerals over meat: EU farmers rail against trade deal with Australia

London | Europe’s powerful farm lobby is demanding lawmakers vote against the free trade agreement with Australia, complaining tariff-free quotas for beef exports compound damage from other deals to the continent’s cattle growers and exposes them to more efficient producers.

Lobbyist for European farmers accused Brussels of using primary producers as a “bargaining chip” for broader political interests, while French livestock producers also slammed the agreement.
