The chief executive of one of the National Disability Insurance Scheme’s biggest providers has called on the government to address lax rules around who can profit from the $50 million scheme, saying it is easier to become an unregistered provider than to get a licence to work in a pub.
The number of unregistered providers being paid to support plan-managed NDIS participants increased by more than 10,000 last year, despite growing concern about shonky operators rorting the overwhelmed scheme, data released on Thursday shows.
