New BHP boss has work cut out for him to deliver copper future

After six-and-a-half years in the top job and almost a quarter of a century at the world’s biggest mining company, Mike Henry leaves on a high note. As he prepares to pass the torch to Brandon Craig – the company’s Minerals Americas president for the past two years – Henry has maintained BHP as one of the best miners in the world.
Henry’s legacy will be transitioning BHP to a major global producer of “future-facing” commodities such as copper, nickel and potash in a lower-carbon world and pivoting the company away from its reliance on iron ore and thermal coal.
