Japan’s ambassador to Australia says any change to gas taxes will curtail investment and Australia’s reputation as a reliable energy partner.

Japan’s extreme concern about potential changes to Australia’s tax regime is reflected in unusually blunt comments by the Japanese ambassador to Australia, Kazuhiro Suzuki.

He makes it clear that loud calls for the May 12 budget to impose new windfall taxes on the LNG export industry would damage Japan’s willingness to invest in Australia and the country’s reputation as a reliable energy supplier.
