Only 9 seats remain: Here’s what the Libs must do to survive

The Liberal Party has spent months focused on internal numbers. The leadership change matters. But there is a set of numbers that matters even more.

Eighty-eight of Australia’s 150 [lower house] seats are metropolitan, 57 per cent of the chamber. In the US Congress, the equivalent figure is just 43 per cent. Unlike the Republicans, who can afford to write off big cities and still command a majority, we cannot.
