Public servant wages bomb could cost NSW $300m

The NSW government faces a big jump in its wages bill because a $1000 cash payment it agreed to for tens of thousands of public servants looks set to be triggered by a surge in inflation due to the Middle East war.

The total cost of the measure – a cost-of-living payment agreed to for workers across multiple public sector worker agreements if inflation hits 4 or 4.5 per cent – could be $300 million a year.
