Qantas faces profit hit despite soaring fares as fuel becomes scarce

Flights across the Middle East are grounded, airfares are through the roof, and Qantas is still increasing its charges to cover surging fuel costs.

That is despite hedging almost all its oil needs for the year. However, it is not oil that is the problem for the airline, and for many of its rivals. It is the expense of turning that oil into aircraft fuel: unhedged and skyrocketing.
