Qatar Airways has cancelled hospitality events at this weekend’s Formula 1 race, calling guests it had invited to a corporate suite at the track to say hosting celebrations in Melbourne would be inappropriate while some of its passengers were stranded in the Middle East because of the war in Iran.
The airline, which is the naming rights sponsor for the race in Australia and a 25 per cent investor in Virgin Australia, had planned a VIP dinner at Marmelo restaurant in Melbourne CBD on Friday.
