Revellers queue for more than 15 hours to catch world-famous fireworks

Despite fears people might stay away, hundreds of thousands of revellers have wasted no time trying to secure the perfect view at Sydney’s most coveted lookouts.

It was almost impossible to navigate the sea of picnic blankets at Milsons Point on Wednesday afternoon, as people guarded their viewing positions like watch dogs. Don’t take their spot, and they won’t bite you. Simple as that.

The people of Sydney flocked to the harbourside, with many waiting upwards of 15 hours to secure a spot where they could catch the best view of the iconic fireworks. At the most coveted lookouts, some revellers even camped overnight.
