Royal commission faces challenges after Richardson’s exit
The hope now is that the Commissioner’s vast judicial powers can overcome a disorderly start to provide the forensic accountability the Bondi victims deserve.
That such a well-respected member of Australia’s security establishment, Dennis Richardson, has walked away from his role as a special adviser to the antisemitism royal commission because he felt “surplus to requirements” is symptomatic of the investigation’s chaotic origins.
The Albanese government’s intransigence is partly to blame. Instead of decisive action to call a royal commission in response to the worst terrorist attack in the nation’s history at Bondi on December 14, Labor indulged in political management.
