South Australian election shows two-party system is breaking down fast
The irony of the SA election result is that the grievances driving One Nation supporters are occurring on Labor’s watch, but the Liberals are bearing the brunt.
The South Australian election will be remembered for two reasons: a thumping Labor landslide that cemented Peter Malinauskas’ authority; and the moment flesh and bone were finally put to One Nation’s showing in the opinion polls.
The Pauline Hanson-led party accounted for 22 per cent of primary votes across the state, which could earn them one or two upper house spots. On any political report card, One Nation would get top marks for disruption. The election confirms Australia’s political duopoly is no longer safe.
