Sanjeev Gupta’s crumbling metals empire has been dealt two further blows, with the corporate regulator starting legal action to wind up a manganese smelter in Tasmania, while a NSW court appointed a liquidator to the mothballed Tahmoor Coal mine, south of Sydney.
The Australian Securities and Investments Commission said on Friday it had filed an application in the Supreme Court of NSW to wind up Gupta’s Liberty Bell Bay company, the owner of the smelter, because of its repeated failure to lodge annual financial reports.
