NSW is fast-tracking 15 data centre projects worth $52 billion even as it warns households could be slugged for electricity transmission upgrades to accommodate the huge growth in the voraciously power-hungry industry.
Treasurer Daniel Mookhey on Friday will announce the first tranche of data centre projects approved by the Investment Delivery Authority, making good a promise to sift out speculative investments from serious ones by rejecting nearly $41 billion schemes submitted for approval to NSW’s planning fast lane.
