Washington | United States President Donald Trump says his administration plans to take control of Venezuela and open up its vast oil reserves to American energy companies after Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores were captured during deadly military strikes on the capital, Caracas.
Trump, who announced the extraordinary nighttime operation on social media early on Saturday (Saturday evening AEDT), said the US military was prepared to conduct further strikes to retain control even as his troops left the country in the hands of Delcy Rodriguez, Maduro’s vice president and ally.
