Australia’s energy grid operator could face a significant shake-up of its independent role in the West Australian power market after the state government launched a behind-closed-doors review of the agency’s handling of the west coast electricity system.
The review began in early 2026 amid government concerns that the Australian Energy Market Operator was too focused on the east coast market and lacked proper accountability to the west, according to sources familiar with the matter, who spoke on the condition of anonymity.
