Waratah Super Battery faces longer delay in test for NSW grid

Australia’s largest battery won’t be fully operational until the end of 2026 after last October’s catastrophic failure of a transformer at the $1 billion project north of Sydney, posing a test for the NSW power grid and cutting expected revenue for its owner.

The schedule given by BlackRock-owned Akaysha Energy for the full start-up of the Waratah Super Battery indicates its full availability to back up the state’s under-pressure grid will be up to seven months later than Akaysha had flagged to the Australian Energy Market Operator.
