For those worried about a spate of interest rate hikes in 2026, Australia’s top economic forecasters say the Reserve Bank of Australia could be “one and done” this year after its policy pivot this month, arguing that the sudden threat of inflation will be quickly stamped out.
Katrina Ell – named by The Australian Financial Review as the most accurate economic forecaster for 2025 – said that price growth in Australia was much better contained than in the past few years when inflation peaked at nearly 8 per cent in 2022.
